Jordan started Xplore CrossFit in order to bring a unique and intense brand of fitness to downtown Seattle. Gyms have so much "stuff" that rarely aids people in achieving their fitness goals. They make their money by signing people up who are rarely if ever going to come back. Jordan started Xplore CrossFit with the mission to get people motivated and coming back often as they see themselves begin to change in a way they never thought possible.
Jordan considers himself an elite athlete in the making. He views everyone including himself as a continual work in progress. He pushes himself as hard as he pushes his clients, growing right along side them. Even knowing how much power people hold inside he is continually surprised by clients will and determination to break through physical barriers and it motivates him to worker harder for and with his clients. At times he can be quite the form nazi and it may seem like a get fit or die trying mentality but in reality Jordan loves to have fun in the gym and getting into better shape and helping others do the same just sets him on fire.
Jordan is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist(C.S.C.S). and a CrossFit level 1 trainer. He has a great ability to motivate and help individuals realize how powerful they really are. He enjoys all physical pursuit especially cycling, running, swimming, climbing, and Olympic lifting. He has recently started to learn gymnastics. Jordan works with a myriad of athletes including, soccer and rugby players, cyclists, ultra marathoners, and boarder-cross racers. Jordan is involved in the youth program at Green Lake SDA church and he is working on a CrossFit training program geared towards King County employees.
Interview with Jordan
How did you discover CrossFit?
I was taking a new gym member through his complimentary workouts and he said that he wasn’t interested in training and that he had a great program that he was committed to and he was just curious if I could show him anything new. To any trainer this translates to “I know everything, you can’t surprise me or hurt me but go ahead and give it your best shot.” I took the challenge and I can honestly say that I taught him something new, surprised him, and caused him to hurt a little bit. After he regained consciousness he thanked me for the workout and asked me if I had heard of CrossFit because my training style was reflective of it. I had not so he wrote some stuff down for me to look into and nine months later, here I am.
What made it stick?
My first official CrossFit workout was at CrossFit Seattle (formerly CrossFit North) with Scott Takanega. He asked me what I was doing there and I didn’t have a clear answer. I said I wanted to check it out and he kept asking me, “What do you want here?” I felt like I was being interrogated before I would be let into a secret society. He explained that everyone comes for different reasons and to make people successful you had to know where they wanted to go. He told me something I will never forget. “CrossFit is not new. The exercises have been around for ages. Greg Glassman just gave it a name.” I felt like I walked into fight club and fourteen minutes and thirty-two seconds later when I finished Christine for the first time I was hooked
What motivates you?
I want to be the fittest. I am driven by competition and since I am not the best I still have something to drive me. I love to train myself for higher levels of performance. Always pushing to improve my fitness level motivates others, which in turn motivates me even more. I love this job. The motto I desire to adopt comes from a running shoe ad. “Pick a number between 2 and 6.7 billion. One is already taken.”
What is your next athletic milestone?
Well I have enjoyed running, cycling, and swimming for years and so it was no surprise that I gravitated towards triathlons and running events. As I became more involved in CrossFit I felt that endurance events didn’t reflect enough of what I was training for and they really only tested a few of the ten components of fitness that I am striving to excel in. It was the desire to compete in something that covered more components of physical fitness and I didn’t want to punch anyone so I am planning to compete in a decathlon. I am also waiting for the Seahawks to hold open try outs.
